FOG....ahhhhh

Sorry folks, no pictures this time. Unfortunately our scenery hasn't been very exciting due to a very nasty thing called fog. This entry is mainly to thank the Olcott Yacht Club for their assistance in getting Meggie, Mike and I safely to a secure slip in the thikest fog I've ever seen. Under the careful instruction of Sue from OYC, we were able to safely come through the breakwalls and into the safety of Olcott's harbour. We somehow found a fishing boat out there that didn't come into view until it was about 15 feet off our beam, and we didn't see the HUGE red flashing light on the end of the west pier until we were about a boat length from it. Without Sue on the radio guiding us in, we don't know what we would have done. I wonder how much radar is???????
So thank you a million times to Sue(for your guidance...literally), Mike (for dinner, drinks and super hospitality), customs officers for not having to rip our boat apart for an inspection and thank you to the rest of the OYC members.
We're now in Rochester, NY and hope to head to Oswego where we get to experience the joy of demasting Meggie....ugghhh. Oh well, it's all part of the adventure.
So, just a quick update for now, when we have some more exciting news we'll let you know.
Ciao (and as always we love the comments, so keep them coming)
Kylie and Mike

aug 30 mike and kylie get a copy of skipper bob's new york canal system. it's easy going in this system, but i think hudson and beyond will be harder going, so lets try to meet up before new york city. we are in phoniex right now and plan to cross lake oneinda today.

Forget the radar! We purchased radar 3 or 4 years ago. We had been caught in the fog entering Stokes Bay without gps or engine. We vowed then and there to purchase radar for the next seasons sailing. Ever since we purchased it we have NOT HAD FOG. So where you are going there is not enough fog to worry about. Good luck with the removal of your "hand made masts". I'm sure you will have no problems with that job. We are enjoying your emails.

Reading your comments made us remember fog soup the first trip to the North Channel! Glad you are safe. We have had the same wet weather, as you have heard from harbour pals we all stayed here except for Tegan. Warmer beds and creature comforts on shore. Nic reads your comments with dreams in his eyes - one more year to graduation then he can venture off also. They are both packing up today. Mike's skills for maintenance were never in doubt! Just too bad you had to use them on the mast so soon. Take care, and love to read along with you.

Hey there,

Glad to hear everything is going well despite some minor mishaps. I finally found your page and will check it often. Things are getting colder here and we wish we were heading south as well. Brother-in law Chris caught up with TwiceLoved at MainDuck Island in lake Ontario. They saw a boat with the mast down and said 'What are the chances'. What do you know, it was TwiceLoved. If we can help with anything, let us know.

sept 6 you two are really doing great with your travelling. we can't believe it we are now in catskill we stayed here for 2 nights. there is a hurricane coming up the coast. in new york city we will be anchored at sandy hook, depending on weather, hope we can meet soon. the hudson river is a breeze, tides are easy to deal with. weather is going to be sunny, which will be great. see you soon, twice loved standing by on 16.
